Project

Geothermal energy + gas and chiller backup solution

Location

Plancoët (France)

Initial system

Background

ORPEA, a chain of clinics and retirement homes offering services to the elderly across France, has entrusted Celsius Energy with multiple projects. One of them is a clinic in Brittany, in a brand-new building attached to a historical building of the medical institute located on the same premises.

Need

In their new clinic, ORPEA was looking for a sustainable, low-carbon heating and cooling solution that would contribute to the thermal comfort and the overall well-being of its residents long-term while helping to ensure energy independence and energy efficiency.

Solution

Celsius Energy offered ORPEA a turnkey solution that could be combined with a gas and chiller backup system as needed. This tailor-made solution entails 18 inclined probes drilling to a depth of up to 150 meters, combined with a technical room with a geothermal heat pump and a digital energy management solution.

Result

The chosen Celsius Energy solution helps to reduce CO2 emissions by 86% and to reduce total energy consumption by 69 % compared to the traditional system consisting of a gas boiler and cooling units.
